In this special tour prepared to discover the unique riches of Van, full of nature and history, you will witness the difficult migration journey of pearl mullets, the elegant dance of flamingos and the fascinating atmosphere of Akdamar Island.
May 30 - June 1, 2025
The pearl mullet, unique to Lake Van, migrates from the soda waters of the lake to freshwater sources every year between May and July, which is the breeding season. This migration is due to the fact that the soda water in the lake is not suitable for the development of the pearl mullet eggs. They struggle hard against the current to reproduce.
Flamingos are seen in Lake Van and the surrounding wetlands, especially in the spring and summer months. They feed and rest here, taking advantage of the rich biodiversity of the region. Their elegant appearance in pink and white tones is a great source of interest for nature lovers and photographers.
On Akdamar Island, which offers an impressive view with the turquoise waters of Lake Van and the almond trees that bloom in spring, the 10th-century Akdamar Church fascinates visitors with its exterior decorations and historical atmosphere.
