EPHESUS PAMUKKALE LAODICEA TOUR

And The House of Virgin Mary

September 10th-11th, 2023

Day 1:  Antalya - İzmir flight , Ephesus Ancient City - The House of Virgin Mary

Ephesus ancient city was inhabited as a small settlement  around BC 8600 and became one of the prominent capitals enlarging in time.

With its beauty, the most well-known structure of the city is one of the Wonders of the World Artemis Temple built by Lydian King Croseus in BC 550 before the city was captured by Romans. Unfortunately just a few pieces of stone and an assembled pillar have been left to date. Artemis, a Greek god, is considered to be a continuation of Kybele, the Anatolian fertility goddess,  and synthesised into Greek culture.

The House of Virgin Mary

It is known that Virgin Mary was settled by St. Jeans after the death of Jesus Christ and that she died here. The church being announced as a Pilgrim venue by Johannes the 23rd Pope in 1961 is known to be “Panaya Kapulu” among Christians.

Overnight stay in  Pamukkale

Day 2:

Pamukkale, Hierapolis, Leodicea and return to Alanya

Visit to Hierapolis ( Listed by UNESCO since 1988)

*Hierapolis-Pamukkale(Unesco listed since 1988)

Deriving from springs in a cliff almost 200 m high overlooking the plain, calcite-laden waters have created at Pamukkale (Cotton Palace) an unreal landscape, made up of mineral forests, petrified waterfalls and a series of terraced basins. At the end of the 2nd century B.C. the dynasty of the Attalids, the kings of Pergamon, established the thermal spa of Hierapolis. The ruins of the baths, temples and other Greek monuments can be seen at the site

Deriving from springs in the town was made a bishopric. As the place of St. Philip’s martyrdom in 80 A.D., commemorated by his Martyrium building in the 5th century, Hierapolis with its several churches became an important religious centre for the Eastern Roman empire.

*Leodicea

The second largest ancient city in Turkey after Ephesus, Laodicea is a place where the head of the stature of God Emperor Augustus was unearthed. The only other example of this head is in the Vatican Museum. Laodicea survived an earthquake which destroyed all towns in the Lycus Valley.

Being one of the 7 churches of revelation mentioned in the gospel of St.Luke

Holy Church: In the ancient city, there is an ambo platform and sanctuary sections of a church. World Christianity met in the 4th century for holy pilgrimage here.
